Lake Wilderness Park's natural amphitheater is the closest thing Maple Valley has to a town square once the sun drops. The city's Music and Movies in the Park series runs at the Lake Wilderness Park Amphitheater at 22500 SE 248th Street, and the concerts happen rain or shine.
A separate series worth knowing about is run by the Maple Valley Creative Arts Council and the Lake Wilderness Arboretum Foundation. Those shows run 6 to 7 p.m. and feature local musicians, singer-songwriters, and spoken word. The 2026 series kicked off with the Swing Street Jazz Ensemble, a jazz quartet drawing members from Boogie Boulevard.

A Saturday morning market is not a novel concept. What makes this one worth planning around, rather than dropping in on, is the mix. It sits close enough to Four Corners that you can pair it with breakfast without a second stop, and the vendor list leans heavier on prepared food and Washington-grown produce than on the craft-fair filler you find at some suburban markets. If you are new to the market or have not been since the kids were small, treat this August as a reintroduction. Applications closed for the 2026 season, so the vendor mix is set through October.
The Two New Rooms In Town
Two openings in the last nine months have meaningfully changed the weeknight dinner conversation.
Gabriela's Restaurant & Bar opened in the space formerly known as Gloria's and, before that, Stockton's, at 23220 Maple Valley Black Diamond Road. Owner Christopher Bemis kept what worked. The salad bar returned, familiar staff came back, and the menu features diner classics like omelets, Eggs Benedict, pancakes, waffles, and French toast, plus "Valley Favorites" including a corned beef plate and biscuits and gravy. Gabriela's secured a liquor license from the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board, and live music is on the schedule most evenings.
Chick-fil-A Maple Valley Hwy & 271st began serving on June 4, 2026, at 27264 Maple Valley Black Diamond Rd. SE. Per the chain's own announcement, it is open Monday through Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and brought roughly 100 jobs to town. The owner-operator, Justin Alley, was born and raised in Enumclaw and, according to the Courier-Herald, came to the brand after retiring from the U.S. Coast Guard. Two months in, the drive-thru line is still long at lunch. Mid-afternoon is your window.

Sonora Steak is worth calling out for the newer residents. It is a Mexican steakhouse serving Wagyu, prime-grade angus, and hand-made tortillas and salsas. Dinner service runs Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday from 4 to 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 4 to 10. It is closed Monday and Tuesday, which catches people off guard.

Circle Thursday, August 20 on the fridge calendar. The Highlands at Lake Wilderness community calendar has the summer's outdoor movie night set for that evening, with E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) starting at dusk, around 8:30 p.m., at Lake Wilderness Park. Movies at the park get rescheduled or moved indoors for severe weather or lightning, so keep an eye on the city's channels the day of.
